Take your own toiletries when travelling

Boycott the mini bottles of toiletries in hotels.

Why this pledge is so important

200 million mini bottles of toiletries are dumped in land fill each year. Many hotels from large chains such as Marriott and the InterContinental Hotel Group (IHG) have plans to remove the mini bottles, which is great but you can change your habits immediately.

Take Lucy Seigle’s advice and avoid stocking up on over-engineered travel-sized toiletries or pump dispensers that you cannot refill. Beschan and Muji have great refillables which you can refill from your own bulk toiletries at home.

There are also plastic free ranges of shampoo and conditioners and Lush makes it easy to swap a bottle for a bar – check out its new cork pots of shampoo and conditioner.

Our favourite for travelling is the amazing Wanderlust Wash Bar from Sapooni. It comes in a travel friendly tin and is a shampoo, face/body soap, shaving soap and laundry soap all in one.
